I have been patiently waiting for this video to come out, who knew it would be so depressing? I was hoping it would be a happy video about finding new love in a happy place, but yeah, it’s not. Prrrreeeetty intense and a nice reminder of what I would never, ever want in a relationship.

Rihanna’s newest video shows us the crazy dark side of relationships that happens when two people, possessed by one another’s personal demons and weaknesses, fall in love, but they’re eventually forced to fall apart because of how bad things get. Love the song sooo much still, and I do really like the video, it was interesting to say the least, but not for this what seemed to be happy song. Her and her boyfriend scare me in this, a lot. Druggie, possessive love? Not cool.

And PS- word to the world: if drugs are involved, it’s not love.

When I first heard this song I loved it… it has depressing lyrics, but somehow still is such a pretty song that leaves you feeling happy? It’s weird. I was curious as to what the story behind the song was and when I read more about it, I liked the song even more. Not that depressing after all :)

When asked about the meaning of the song, lead singer Kimberly Perry said this was the first song written for their upcoming album. Her and her two brothers got together on a cloudy day in Tennessee, and came up with the concept which then turned into a song.  The meaning of the song is simple Kim says, it’s about making the most of whatever time you are given, whether it’s 2 years or 20 years. She goes on to says that even at their young ages, they have all lived and loved, and if it all ends at this moment… look what they’ve gotten to do. “Whatever time we’re given will be absolutely enough as long as we make the most of it”.
