Soooo I never thought I would see the day I put my spray tanning machine away, but the time has come. I have had a crazy cough honestly since I’ve used the thing, and even though I’m not sure that caused it, I’ve decided to hold off on it for a bit. Anyway, the thought of no tan left me in a panic… I can’t be pale, so what’s a girl to do? My mom, being an avid Sunless Tanner, suggested Hawaiian Tropic Island Radiance Self Tanner so off to CVS I went to test it out. I was vvvvvvvery skeptical to try it out, I didn’t think anything could come match the custom spray tans I was used to, but let me tell you, this stuff DID! I love it!
Here are my PRO vs CONS:
PROs:
* Love the color. I bought the “MEDIUM DARK” which is almost as dark as my spray tan. Much darker than most Sunless Tanners I have used before.
* The tan lasted much longer than my spray tan and faded much more gradually as well. No pale patches, fades lighter all over.
* MUCH safer than Airbrush Tanning. The FDA only approved sunless tanners for TOPICAL use. Airbrush Tanning solution is NOT FDA approved to be inhaled. Inhalation of sunless tanning solution can cause numerous problems, many of which I personally have experienced as side effects of tanning.
* Develops over night. I applied it to my pale legs thinking I would need a few coats but it tanned them enough after just one night!
* Affordable. Only $13 bucks at any drug store.
CONs:
* The lotion is a bit sticky after applying, so I can only wear it before bed. The thought of putting jeans on after applying was painful. It took about 1 hour to fully dry.
* Streaks are inevitable with lotion because it applies clear. Hard to see what areas are covered however nothing came out too streaky when I rubbed it in thoroughly.
* The hands are tricky because you want tan hands, but have to wash off the bottoms after applying. To avoid this I pre-wet a towel with a bit of soap, applied the lotion all over my hands and then used the towel to only wipe off the bottoms of the hands.
* A bit stinkier than the Airbrush Tan I am used to.
Overall, if I had to pick a method that applied easier and prettier, I would definitely choose an Airbrush Tanning machine, however with all my lung problems, I am forced to settle for a lotion for now. This Hawaiian Tropic Sunless Tanning Lotion didn’t finish too far behind so I can’t say I’m too disappointed. Happier lungs and tan skin? Win win
