It is hard to find protein bars worth chewing AND swallowing these days, but I found one today I love! I got it at Jamba Juice but it is made by Clif Bar so I am sure they carry these in health/grocery stores all over. The bar is called Builder’s Entirely Natural Protein bar. It tastes like a delicious brownie and even has 20 grams of protein in it! Builder’s bars are made with organic ingredients, and free of antibiotics, hormones and genetic modifications. PLUS, Clif Builder’s don’t contain trans fats or partially hydrogenated oils and are considered a low-glycemic food. As a bonus, they come in 6 yummy flavors. I had chocolate and it was great.

Yeah wait, what, I’m movin it? Weird… Sorry I have lagged with the Monday tips, been all over the map but I am back. I only had 4 hours of sleep last night, so no gym for me, that will have to come tomorrow. This week’s tip is all about nutrition anyway so everyone can start today even if you’re saving the gym for tomorrow. Today’s tip is regarding protein… I am definitely not a nutrition know it all, however that doesn’t mean that a lot of my friends aren’t.

One of my most fab-fit friends Kail asked me what I ate for lunch today and when I told her broccoli, string beans and a Tiger’s Milk bar she yelled at me, apparently, that wasn’t enough protein. She told me I should be eating AT LEAST 50 grams of protein a day which… ya, not sure if I am doing that daily. I workout moderately, so protein is super important to combine with my work outs. She eats about 120 grams a day but fitness and nutrition is her job.  I wanted to at least give you all a break down of some good foods to include in your daily diet to ensure you are getting enough protein per day.

It is interesting to see what each food breaks down to per serving. You could be eating several of these foods each day, all while still having an inadequate protein intake. Check this list below and see if you make the cut! Are you eating 50 grams of protein a day at least?

Salmon, chicken, halibut, egg whites, soy beans, low fat cottage cheese, low fat yogurt… just to name a few of the best options… here are the rest!protein

Since I was so sick I found myself eating Jamba Juice everyday, and while there I discovered they now sell yummy wraps that are pretty good and if you throw the SAUCE out, are actually a decent healthy meal! The key is to not eat the sauce though like I said. Sauce is so gross, thanks again to my weird parents for raising me to not like condiments.

Anyway find a Jamba Juice and try these out, I love the Chimichurri wrap. Chicken, lettuce, corn, onions, and bell peppers. They have several other flavors like Asian Chicken, an all veggie one, and a Greek Goddess one. Again NO sauce. Sauce makes it NOT healthy.

In my wrap alone the fat difference was 16 grams! EW. That is like 16 golden spoon yogurts… yikes in one tiny cup. Sick.

If I ever needed a move it Monday motivation it would have to be NOW. My birthday is coming up and I need to be bikini bound for Las Vegas asap! I have been super over working out this week, I really am going to have to dig deeeeeep down inside of myself and yank out the workout freak that I know lies somewhere inside of me.

A lot of my friends have over the years became raw foodist’s, which is a lifestyle promoting the consumption of un-cooked, un-processed, and often organic foods as a large percentage of the diet. They also typically believe that the greater the percentage of raw food in the diet, the greater the health benefits. Not only do you get more nutrients from the food you are eating, you lose tons of weight! I personally could never become a total raw foodist but maybe if I just up my dose of raw fruits and veggies I will eat healthier and maybe be less puffy ;)

My goal this week is to eat cleaner, more veggies, fruits, nuts, eggs, salads, water etc… especially before bed! That combined with the gym 5 days a week I think I will be ok :) Let’s see how well I can stick with it!

I was listening to the radio this morning and they were talking about cool dining places in San Diego to try out, and one they mentioned was this place called Nature’s Ambrosia in Point Loma. So, what is it?

Nature’s Ambrosia is an ALL fruit restaurant! That’s right, they ONLY serve fruit! What is also cool about this place?

They use no preservatives, they’re Gluten free, and use no Frozen Fruits, All Natural Ingredients.  Nature’s Ambrosia has smoothies, slushies, shakes, juices, fruit bowls, fruit tacos (fruit wrapped in a tortilla) and healthy dessert cups with your choices of strawberries, bananas, mangoes, pineapple, oranges, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon, peanut butter, chocolate, coconut.  They also have milk, soy milk, ginger, protein (soy, rice and/or whey/wheat & egg) and toppings- almonds, raisins, peanuts, choc chips, coconut flakes and granola.

Yum! I loveeee places like this! Check it out!
