Awww this email was so cute, I wish she lived closer I’d totally spice her up for the night, Academy Award style.

What 2 Wear 2 Email: “My name is ToriAnn and I’m a freshman. My high schools homecoming dance is right around the corner (October 23). I have no idea what to wear to it. And none of my sisters have ever been to a Homecoming dance, the theme for the dance is Academy Awards. I have a boyfriend but he can’t come to the dance because he goes to a different school. I really need help to find a really outfit to wear. My spending limit is $150. I have to pay for everything myself, and I am on a budget.”

W2W2 reply: First of all, $150.00 is PLENTY! I’m guessing you could totally find an outfit for wayyyy under $100.00, you just have to be smart about it. Since you don’t have much time, me posting dresses online won’t help so instead I will post looks that I like and hope that you can re-create something similar. If I were you here is where I’d start:

* Pick a cute dress that you feel good in and that looks nice. Choose your dress material carefully, NO cotton! Aim for something that is satin or a nice material. Any length is fine it’s 2010.

* To spice the outfit up, pair the dress with GLAM jewelry. If it’s a tube top, find a fun, big necklace or some dangly earrings.

* Perfect your hair and make up and go for a look that is different than your everyday hair and make up. Ask a friend to help with your hair, and for make up? Go to a local make up counter and have them help you. Call for an apt. Most will do it for free if you purchase something.

* Smokey eye make up & BIG glossy lips. Fake eyelashes help create a dramatic eye as well.

* Make sure you have a nice golden glow. Tan skin is a must for any event, in my opinion.

* Perfectly polished nails & toes, again a must, always…

Here are a few pictures I found helpful for inspiration, all are young, flirty, fun looks! Notice all have big, fun necklaces, earrings, bracelets etc. I also like these messy up-do’s and make up ideas as well.

So now that we have a few looks we like, now how do we take a simple dress, and put a look together?

Take this simple, one shoulder, red mini dress for example. Super cute start, but now we must put together a solid look to match the glam level of your event. You can easily find a simple dress like this one below for cheap!

Alert the Media Red One Shoulder Dress- $40.00

If I were wearing this dress to an Academy Awards party, I would use a hairstyle that did not look like ordinary party hair. Skip the straight hair, skip the curls down, maybe try a sleek pony tail, a messy side pony tail or messy up do that fancies up the dress. Some hair styles I love for this theme…

Once you have your fancy hair do, next I would find jewelry to fit the dress. Since this dress is covering most of the chest, I would go for a big pair of earrings, a big bracelet or a fun ring. The two pieces you choose should match or at least coordinate.

Overall, like I said, I think the most important part is perfecting your hair, make up and the way you accessorize to fit the glamorous theme. If you keep those 3 things superrrr GLAM you should look amazing regardless of the dress. You should be able to find a similar style dress as the pictures I posted for under $50.00 and you can use the rest on make up and accessories! Hope these tips helped and please send me a pic of the final product!
