You know what I hate more than anything? When I am having a stressful moment and people take it upon themselves to tell me to “relax” in that annnnoying, condescending tone. Basically telling me “You’re an over reacting psycho” It’s just hidden in the phrase “relax”. Hmm noooo how about you Fk!$w*@#ing relax. Nothing is more irritating.
What do you think telling me to “relax” accomplishes? Let’s be real you just have nothing else to say so you instead tell me to relax. Well for the record, telling someone to relax is the worst thing you can do because what you are saying is that their stresses aren’t worth stressing over. You think I am worrying over nothing? Maybe I am, but how about you address the issue rather than tell me to relax.
Come to think of it I hate any short half ass replies.
“It’s ok” – Really? What’s ok? The fact that you’re lazy and not really listening? Ya that’s ok…
“I’m sorry.” – Really? What are you sorry about? I’m sorry you’re 23+ and can’t communicate properly.
“Chill Out”- I don’t ever want to be “chill” but thanks!
“Smile” – Uh I will smile when I want to?
Long story short, if you think you’re helping by telling someone to relax, chill out, or to calm down, you’re NOT. Not 1%. Next time you have a friend venting to you, avoid these lazy replies and try listening for a change, and offer an actual response…
” I know you are frustrated right now, but let me help you look for your keys.”
” I know you are running late, but don’t worry I will help you get ready.”
” I know you wanted to make it to that meeting in time but you already missed it, maybe we can write your boss a letter explaining the situation.”
Who knows the circumstance, but people need to start being better friends and ditch the condescending short replies, they help no one. Thanks
