I can’t believe it! I read in the paper today that Jack’s in La Jolla has closed! Owner Bill Berkley, declined to explain why the business was closing, saying only that while the economy was partially to blame, “there’s far more than that.”
While no one is quite sure exactly what other issues could have driven Berkley to close the business, state records reveal that a state tax lien of more than $280,000 was filed in February against Jack’s of La Jolla and its parent company, Wellington Inc.
Jack’s 120 employees, who were all let go, were of course shocked and upset.
Jack’s was always a fun time, I loved their happy hour food & drink specials. It was a cool venue that contained three dining rooms, hip bars, and a nightclub that featured an open air courtyard with a retractable roof, all in one building.

Me & Pal one night @ Jack's
Jack’s did always charge me a cover charge, now I know why. They were broke! Maybe if they let more girls in for free, more guys would pay to come
I stopped going to Jack’s because in the final few months the lines were a mess and one night I even waited 1 hour just to try to get upstairs and still couldn’t. It was cool but not that cool, I never did return. RIP Jacks

Sad news. This is where i learned (at age 24) that you could get any drink for $3 at Happy Hour. I couldn’t believe it until I learned that they sneaky only give WELL drinks for $3! Ewwww who wants a stinky well drink? I’d rather pay double and not feel like shiznit the next day. So much for $3 you call it. Thanks pal for introducing it though! Will miss Jacks!!
