Once upon a time I worked at La Puerta. I know… me as a waitress, what the heck right. I applied thinking it was a cocktail waitressing position and somehow ended up as a waitress. Whatever, I lasted a whole 30 days I think until I had to leave before I was fired hahaha. In my head, I did a great job but I guess not everyone agreed?

Anyways I still really like it there and if you have not tried it out yet you should! It is on 4th Ave. a bit North of Aubergine. They stay open late, til 1am serving food, and it has a cozy “hangout” feel to it. It is Mexican food, so maybe that is why I think its so awesome.

They trained us forever and a day, so hopefully the staff is still super informed on the food and tequila. It is mostly a tequila bar so they can answer any and all questions you have on tequila! BUT they do not carry Patron? Why? Because most types of Patron suck. It is made with crappy agave scraps they buy from random dealers trying to get rid of whatever is left they grew. Patron is a leading tequila simply because of awesome branding and marketing. Don’t be fooled Try out Don Julio or Cazadores instead and always stick with tequilas that are 100% agave, this means the only sugar that exists is the sugar from the agave. Aka less hangover. They might sell some top shelf Patron now, who knows…they didn’t carry any when I was there.

La Puerta has 1$ mimosas on Sunday mmm and yummy food! The owner Merritte also owns Confidential so it is ran well, very clean, and he really cares about making sure you have an awesome time!
